In western Honduras, just outside the Celaque National Park, some of Honduras’ finest coffees are cultivated. For producers in this region, coffee is more than a way to make a living, it’s tied to their traditions and local pride. Corquin, near the borders of the Lempira and Copan departments, has been home to specialty coffee producers some time. Natural resources have been wisely used, and most producers have gathered in groups or co-ops that work together as teams, to improve their access to resources and financing. In the community of Maguellal, producers follow the same good principals of agronomy, including picking only red cherries and delivering them to the wet mill the same day. This microlot was sun dried in solar dryers or on patios and was carefully selected out of each delivery the producers made.
